Where?
1 teacher per school meets with students in a room at their school.
Estimated Schedule
15 minutes– Each team will watch the opening video. We will begin by announcing the Desmos Art Math Contest winners and then present the problem for the day.
60 minutes– The team competition begins. Schools/Teams (comprised of teams of 3) are presented with a rich math task that is not quickly solvable. Teams must work with their small group and together as a whole team to create multiple, elegant solutions to the problem.
15 minutes – Each teacher will award the following superlatives:
Certificates will be emailed for you to print ahead of time and hand out for each superlative. You and your math club are responsible for providing prizes (if possible).

- Best use of mathematical representation(s)
- Best question to help the group get unstuck (most curious)
- Best perseverance
- Most collaborative (teamwork)
- Best mathematical explanation
- Most precise solution
- Best learning from a mistake
